The Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada has disclosed that the road bottle-neck at the entrance of the state will soon be a thing of the past, just as he revealed that the building of a bypass and graded separation are underway in the state.
The governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Transportation, Mr. Aliu Abubakar made the disclosure during a training session organised by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, for convoy drivers of the Kogi State Government at the Confluence Beach Hotel in Lokoja.
Dr. Aliu opined that the construction became necessary so as to reduce the mortality rates caused by the bottle-necks on the roads passing through the state, as the building of a by-pass and graded separation is underway. He added that they are building flyovers at the Natako and Ganaja intersection.
While addressing the trainee drivers, he urged them to learn to be considerate of other road users as they were seen as bullies on the road which was an aberration.
Our Roving National Correspondent reports that the sessions had in attendance over thirty drivers who were trained in various areas which integrated defensive driving technique, highway driving under special conditions, skillful maneuvering of vehicles on emergency road signs and traffic laws among others.
Meanwhile the Kogi State FRSC, Sector Commander, Omiiko Godwin implored the drivers to take the training seriously, stating that many have been maimed and killed in crashes that was avoidable.
In addition, the Kogi State FRSC, Corp Marshal and Chief Executive, Osita Chidoka represented by Deputy Commander, Adei Abu stated that the consequences of the worrisome trend leaves much to be desired as lives and property worth millions of naira are being lost on a daily basis.
Responding on behalf of the trainees, the Kogi State Government House Transport Officer, Mr. Ramadan Audu thanked the FRSC and the governor for organizing the training, stating that they are ready to put whatever they have learnt into practice.
It would be recalled that late last year the convoy of the Kogi State government was involved in an accident which led to the death of the then ASUU National Chairman.
