All is now set for the rites of passage of Mrs. Grace Sumele Eyengho, the mother of ace Nollywood filmmaker and Niger Delta Activist, Comrade Alex Eyengho.

 

A devout Christian, the late Mrs. Grace Eyengho (nee Okotie Ogunje-Olomu), passed at the age of 80, haven lived a fulfilled life. She left behind other successful children, grandchildren and great grand children, including Engr. Peter Oritsejolomi Nani, Dr. Toritseju Eyengho among others.

 

According to the family, their matriarch’s funeral obsequies will commence on Wednesday, 6th October 2021 at 4:00pm with Service of Songs at her residence in Sapele, Delta State. On 8th October at 7:00am, her body will leave Sapele to her family compound in Koko, Delta State, for Funeral Sermon and interment, followed by entertainment of guests.

 

Mrs. Grace Sumele Eyengho was born in Sapele on August 11, 1941 to the families of Mr. Thompson Inomiesanghan Okotie Ogunje-Olomu and Mrs. Weleke Okotie (nee Asengua Ugborodo-Otsoron). She was paternally from Eghorolobite (Ode-Itsekiri), Ugbolokposo, Koko, Ebrohimi, Bobi, all in Delta State and the Ogungbeni family in Ondo State. Maternally, she hailed from the families of Chief Asengua Ugborodo-Otsoron, Princess Mane Erejuwa I, Chief Oki Omoku and Akatugba of Egbokodo-Itsekiri, Ode-Itsekiri, Ugbolokposo, Orubu and Agbarho, all in Delta State. 

 

She was the eldest child of his parent, followed by a sister, Felicia Adidi Okotie and brother Felix Mojere Okotie, both of whom are alive. She had other half-brothers and sisters from same father including Madam Alice Olugbeyiwa Okotie. She started her elementary education at CMS Primary school, Boyo Road, Sapele (now Crowther Primary School) and later Zik's Grammar school, also in Sapele, where she met Mr. Frank E. Nani, one of her teachers. She was with her popular goldsmith father in Ijebu Ode and Benin for some years.

 

She much later met and married her husband, Mr. Friday Omowu Sholuwa Eyengho from Erueyin-Egogo family of Ijaghala, Ugborodo, Oporoza, Kantu, Bobi, Omadino, Orugbo and Abigborodo, all in Delta State. Thereafter, the couple relocated and settled in Lagos. She stayed long in Lagos raising her children, a total of ten of them, well over the death of her husband in September, 1987. She was a tailor (they call it fashion designer these days) and serial petty trader in all her years in Lagos. 

 

She later came back to Sapele to take care of her sick mother, Mrs. Weleke Okotie-Ogunje, who later passed on to glory. Mrs. Grace Sumele Eyengho, joined the Deeper-life Bible Church of her son and mother and gave her life to Jesus Christ, experiencing salvation and began to live a transformed life till her death on Saturday, 4th of September 2021, after a brief illness that lasted less than 24 hours. It is instructive to note that her husband passed in the same month of September, about the same day! She had 6 sons, 4 daughters, 25 grand-children and 8 great grand-children in her lifetime.
