1979 edict on Udu Kingdom remains sacrosanct, says UUC

President General of the Union of Udu Communities, Chief Godwin Notoma, has reiterated the commitment of the Udu Communities to the 1979 Edict on the traditional configuration of Udu Kingdom and the Udu Traditional Council, stressing that all Udu Communities remain one and should be respected by all.

 

Represented by the Second Deputy President General of the UUC during the inauguration of the new Executive of Oghior Community of Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Evang Andrew Dorkie, the Udu Kingdom PG emphasized unity and cohesive leadership of all Udu communities in the Udu project, calling on all Udu people to rally round the Udu Monarch to ensure Udu make progress and develop at a faster pace, stressing further that the 1979 Edict has come to stay.

 

The new President of Oghior Community, Comrade Joseph Eyovwerhuvwu, in his inaugural speech, thanked Oghior people for the confidence reposed in him in electing him to lead the community in the coming years, promising to work for the progress of the community in all his undertakings.

 

Comrade Eyovwerhuvwu emphasized the determination of his administration to tackle insecurity in the community, the problem of epileptic power supply, the menace of Fulani herdsmen and their devastating operations, dearth of social infrastructure, land disputes and relationship between Oghior and her neighbours amongst other issues, promising to diligently pursue those issues that could take Oghior to greater heights.

Honourable Commissioner on the Board of DESOPADEC, Chief Vincent Oyibode, in his address, urged the new executive to commit to the progress of Oghior, run an inclusive administration, adding that with the caliber of educated elites in the new Executive, he was confident the Joseph Eyovwerhuvwu-led Executive will deliver. He cautioned against cult-related activities amongst the people, warning that those who are involved in cult activities should either desist of face the music.

 

The result of the election was announced by the Secretary of the Oghior Advisory Council, Barr Moses Uchere who declared the winners of the election and issued certificate of return to them. Those who got certificate of return before the inauguration include Comrade Joseph Eyovwerhuvwu as President General, Mr Markson Koyaya, Vice President, Comrade Matthew Salami, Secretary General, Alhaji Kolodi Mahmud, Assistant Secretary, Mr Peter Egberah, Spokesman, Engr James Duku, Youth Leader, William Waka (ASP Rtd), Treasurer, Engr Goddey Emamiwho, Financial Secretary, Wilson Duvweta Opiti, Assistant Spokesman and Jaku Ambrose Clerverly, PRO.

 

The oath of office on the new Exco was administered on them by representative of the Elders Council, Mr Richard Ejire and Barr Moses Uchere to the admiration of guests, fans and well wishers. Out-gone President General, Mr Paul Okome expressed delight with the success of the ceremony and the joy of successful handing over to a new administration.

 

The ceremony was witnessed by Chief Vincent Oyibode, DESOPADEC Commissioner, ArchBishop Dr and Bishop Mrs Moses Eyovwerhuvwu, Evang Andrew Dorkie representing the UUC PG, Comrade Joseph Yoregua, Nigeria Okorode amongst many others.
