Delta: Confusion over protests at Chevron’s fields as NDIOPC claims shutting down wells overnight

Amid seeming confusion over the group(s) responsible for the ongoing protests at Chevron’s Dibi, Alero and Abiteye Fields in Delta State, members of the Niger Delta Itsekiri Oil Producing Communities, NDIOPC led by Raymond Aderojo, in the early hours of Friday December 2, claimed that they shut-down some oil wells at Dibi, Olero axis overnight, warning that their demands and that of the Itsekiri National Youths Council, INYC, must be met else the occupation of the flow stations will continue indefinitely.

Findings by Fresh Angle International revealed that NDIOPC and members of INYC, simultaneously stormed Chevron’s Dibi, Olero and Abiteye Fields in the early hours of Wednesday November 30, for different reasons.

Whilst the leadership of INYC led by Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro began a protest at the oil and gas company’s facilities in demand for President Muhammadu Buhari to revisit the nominations for the recently announced membership of the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC with a view to addressing the perceived shutout of Itsekiri Nation, members of the Niger Delta Itsekiri Oil Producing Communities, NDIOPC, recommenced their protests suspended earlier this year, following intervention of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.

Spokesman of NDIOPC, Comrade Collins Oritsetimeyin Edema, told This Newspaper this morning on telephone: “The NDIOPC sheath our sword on July 26, 2022, after His Imperial Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, The Olu of Warri intervened by giving Chevron Nigeria Limited four months to implement our demands, especially on Conversion of VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6, Provision of Portable drinking Water, Electricity and Employment, but unfortunately Chevron has not met any of these demands till date”.

An Official of Chevron Nigeria Limited (who spoke in confidence) told This Flagship Niger Delta Newspaper, earlier today on telephone that representatives of the company met with “the protesters”, saying the protesters only demanded for Itsekiri Nation to be included in the intending new board of NDDC.
