Fallout of Verdict Delta: Warri South-West Legislative Arm impeach Deputy Leader, declare his seat vacant

The Deputy Leader of Warri South-West Legislative Arm, Hon. Governor Stanley Warenanawei, was earlier today, Thursday March 23, reportedly impeached and immediately replaced by the Councilor representing Debiri Ward, Rt. Hon. Jonathan Saware, Fresh Angle International can report.

The Leader of Warri South-West Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Emiko Odin-Etuwewe, who disclosed the development in an exclusive telephone chat with This Warri-Based Online International Newspaper, few minutes ago, stated the seat of the Councilor representing Ijansa/Ijelejele, Hon. Company Yerinbowei Felix, was declared vacant alongside that of the sacked Deputy Leader, Hon. Governor Stanley Warenanawei.

The dual motion for the impeachment of Hon. Governor Stanley Warenanawei as Deputy Leader and subsequent declaration of his seat and that of Hon. Company Yerinbowei Felix, was Moved by Hon. Charles Erewa and Seconded by Hon. Linda Gbone Omatsone, before adoption by the whole House.

Recall that prior to the just concluded Governorship/ House of Assembly elections, Hon. Governor Stanley Warenanawei and Hon. Company Yerinbowei Felix, defected to the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC.

Rt. Hon. Emiko-Odin Etuwewe, who averred that the decision to axe Hon. Governor Stanley Warenanawei and Hon. Company Yerinbowei Felix, was taken during plenary today, explained: “This was done in cognizance with the Local Government Law as amended in 2017 @ Section 39 (1)(c) of the Local Government Law.

“The Law states the conditions under which a Councilor must give up their seat, as follows: It focuses on situations where a Councilor, originally elected as a representative of a particular political party, changes their political affiliation, before the end of their elected term. If this occurs, the Councilor must vacate his/her seat in the Legislative House.

“However, there are exceptions to this rule. If the change in political party membership is due to:

“A division (split) within the original political party that sponsored the Councilor's election, or a merger of two or more political parties or factions, where one of them was the original party that sponsored the Councilor's election, then the Councilor is not required to vacate their seat, as the change in party affiliation is considered a result of broader political events, rather than a personal choice to switch parties.”

The Leader, Rt. Hon. Emiko Odin-Etuwewe, wished Hon. Governor Stanley Warenanawei and Hon. Company Yerinbowei Felix well in their future endeavour.
