Delta and other states, will become the cynosure of all eyes, as trending reports say President Bola Tinubu, has signed the Electricity Act 2023, de-monopolizing Nigeria’s electricity value chain.
Though details of the Act, were still sketchy as at the time of this report, indications emerged that the Electricity Act 2023, believed to have been assented to this morning, Friday June 9, by the President Tinubu: “Allows the De-monopolization Of Nigeria’s Electricity Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of Electricity at the National Level Empowers States, Companies and Individuals to Generate, Transmit and Distribute Electricity.”
Recall that under the President Goodluck Jonathan administration, licenses were given solely to distribution companies such as Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, with most of the firms under-performing and slamming Nigerians with outrageous bills, for services not rendered.
