Chief Executive Officer of FONE Media, Publisher of Isoko Mirror Newspaper, Felida Essi says some Isokos don’t want anything good written about their communities, stressing that she faced threats of litigation over warnings not to write anything “not factual about their communities” while sourcing for materials in the course of writing the book “Historical Facts on the Isoko People and Communities”
The Publisher who is the current substantive Chairman of Delta State Chapter of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, ACNPN made the declaration during the launching of the first edition of the book “Historical Facts on the Isoko People and Communities” at Shell Ramp in Warri, Delta State.
According to her, she decided to write the book to liberate the Isoko people “from the prison of failure and ignorance” as well as tell them “more about our yesterday, today and tomorrow”.
She described Isoko people as vocal and unspoken only on facebook, noting that it is against that backdrop that the print media becomes imperative.
Our Correspondent who covered the book launch reports that the ceremony which also marked seven years of Isoko Mirror Newspaper on the news stand, saw the conferment of development awards to four Isoko sons and daughter who have distinguished themselves in their endeavours.
The awardees are: Madam Alice Ukoko, Chief John Onowighose Araka, Vincent Ajokpa-Oghene Omovusu, Ogbe Elites Club of Owhelogbo Nigeria and Hon. Abraham Akor Agba.
