BEDC begins mass disconnection

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC has commenced mass disconnection of electricity consumers who are indebted to it, Our Benin City Correspondent reports.

BEDC Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Tayo Adekunle who made the disclosure in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International weekend in Benin City, Edo State, said the disconnection will be fully enforced, claiming some of the consumers have failed to pay for power consumed within the last two years.

According to him, despite numerous engagements with the customers through written correspondences and meetings at various high levels, the consumers have failed to meet their obligations and in order to prevent a colossal business collapse in the entire value chain, the disconnection exercise has become imperative.

The debtors include residential consumers, corporate bodies, MDAs, the Army, Police and Airforce.

Mr. Adekunle explained that the action is in compliance with NERC's connection and disconnection procedures for electricity services 2007, section 5&6.
