Avoid illegality, Edema cautions newly inaugurated Warri South Sanitation Task Force

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema has cautioned members of the newly inaugurated Warri South Local Government Council Environmental Sanitation Task Force against illegality, stressing that his administration is determined to block all possible loopholes to avoid leakages in Internally Generated Revenue.

Hon. Edema who handed down the warning Monday June 6 at his office in Warri South Local Government Council Main Secretariat, Warri, while inaugurating a 22-man Warri South Environmental Sanitation Task Force, noted that members of the Task Force are saddled with the responsibility of monitoring illegal road closures in Warri, aside the prosecution of sanitation offenders.

The Warri South Council Boss who proceeds on a two-week vacation with effect from Thursday June 9 enjoined residents of Warri to pay their waste disposal levy to the Council’s approved account so as to avoid double taxation, noting that the Council authorized building agents have been mandated to do the necessary capturing of residential areas in Warri to ensure proper accountability.

Our Correspondent reports that the Task Force whose membership cuts across the Warri South Legislative Arm, Warri South Council Environment Department and Information Unit, NSCDC, PSP, National Orientation Agency, National Youth Council of Nigeria and the Police, has the Warri South Council Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Kenneth George as Chairman and the Warri South Council Head of Environment Department, Comrade S.D. Umukoro as Secretary.

Responding on behalf of others, Chairman of the Task Force, Mr. Kenneth George assured that members will carry out the assignment without fear or favour and in compliance with the law.

Members of the newly inaugurated Task Force are also expected to monitor indiscriminate dumping of refuse, demolish all illegal and insanitary structures, stop illegal trading on walk ways as well as streets in Warri.
