Lions Club Warri Marks Literacy Day, Tasks Students on The Importance of Education

As the world marks the International Literacy Day, ILD, Warri New Warri Lions Club, has admonished students to take their education seriously.

 

 
 
Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that the call was made yessterday, Friday September Friday 22, at Yonwuren College, Ugbuwangue, Warri, Delta State, during the celebration of International Literacy Day.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO set aside September 8 each year as ILD to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights as well as to advance the literacy agenda toward a more literate and sustainable society.
 
 
To mark the day, Warri New Warri Lions Club, carried out Reading Action Project, RAP at Yonwuren College, Warri, where students were exposed to spelling and pronunciation of English words correctly.

Warri New Warri Lions Club, also donated educational materials, such as notebooks, pen, pencil, eraser, ruler and mathematical sets to the students.
 
 
Speaking at the event, the President of Warri New Warri Lions Club, Lion Princess Oghale Owhe, charged the students to take their education seriously as well as imbibe good manners
 
 
“Education is an essential part of Lions Club, we want you therefore to take your studies seriously and become professionals. Lions Club will do whatever it takes to assist any of you to achieve your educational goals, so play your part and Lions Club will play its part”, she said.

She stressed the need for the students to be serious with their academic work and make their parents proud.
 
 
The immediate past President of Warri New Warri Lions Club, Lion (Mrs.) Lizzy Efejuku, took the teaching and activity session, where the students learnt how to spell and pronounce words correctly in English.
 
 
The Principal of Yonwuren College, Warri, Lion (Mrs.) Esther Abrakata Ogudu, was full of gratitude to the Warri New Warri Lions Club, for teaching and the donations.
 
 
She was particularly grateful for the time Lions Club spent interacting with the students.
 
 
Present at the event were Region 8 Chairperson, Mrs. Elohor Enisueta, Past President of Warri Sappire Lions Club, Lion Grace Quick, Past Region Chairman, Lion Barry Eboma and Lion Nneka Oshiokpu, Effurun Royal Lion Club.
