Former Super Eagles Captain, Nwankwo Kanu has revealed his ultimate dream of turning things around in Nigerian sports, particularly football which brought him to stardom.
The one-time African footballer of the year whose club Portsmouth is completely going out of administration in August 10, told the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC in a recent exclusive interview that his ambition of turning the fortunes of Nigerian football for good is to become Minister of Sports or Special Adviser on Sports to the President.
The Atlantic ’96 Captain of Nigeria Under 23 gold winning team who is among over 100 persons to carry the London 2012 Olympic relay torch explained that his decision to opt for the position of a Sports Minister or Special Adviser as against coaching the country’s Senior National team is to enable him influence policy decisions at the top.
While expressing regret that Nigeria did not qualify for the football event of the London 2012 Olympic games, Kanu Nwankwo who granted the BBC interview in-company of his wife, Amarachi said the country is blessed with abundant soccer talents, just as he expressed optimism that there are better days ahead for Nigerian football despite the obvious down-turn
