Residents of Ogodor layout, Ekpan in Uvwie local government area, Delta State say they are suffering untold hardship following the abandonment of a 1.2km road by Gomeni Nigeria Limited 2 years after mobilization to site.
The road which is off the NPA Expressway linking Niger Cat Construction Company was allegedly awarded for 81million naira and was abandoned by Elolam Nigeria Limited, the company Gomeni sub-let the contract to.
A property owner in the area, Mr. John Eyeshenetan who spoke to newsmen on behalf of property owners and residents of the area, explained that efforts made to reach Secretary to Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, who is allegedly developing a property in the area is yet to yield any result as the SSG only told the delegation that “he will do something about it”.
According to Mr. Eyeshenetan, people are leaving the area as a result of the worsening situation of the road which is damaging their cars.
Investigations reveal that Elolam Nigeria Limited owned by one Friday Enaefewan allegedly abandoned the project after an estimated N30million spent by the company to sand-fill and prime the road was not paid for by the Delta State government which awarded the contract.
Anxiety is growing among residents of the area following speculations that the abandoned project which also leads to a school owned by a former Delta State Commissioner for Education and ACN House of Representatives candidate in the 2011 polls, Dr. Veronica Ogbuagu has been paid for and commissioned.
