Local Government Workers in Delta State are in deep frustration over strong indication that vast majority of them will not be paid any salary from the average nine months salary arrears being owed them because Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa appears to have bowed to the threat by primary school staff across the State not to resume the next academic session if the backlog of their salary arrears as well as other entitlements are not cleared by the State Government.
Fresh Angle International can report that while Governor Okowa has bluntly told the Local Government Chairmen that the allocations accrued to the Councils from what was shared in the last FAAC would be used to pay primary school staff to the frustration of the Local Government workers who were hoping to get salary for a month or two with a view to meeting the academic demands of their children/wards for the incoming school calendar, impeccable report from Asaba have it that the Delta State government is still owing staff of Delta Line Transport Services Limited salaries for the months of July, August, September and October 2015.
The claim by the state government to have cleared the backlog of salaries for the aforementioned months which was announced and published on radio, television and print media appears to be misleading.
It was gathered that the management and staff of the transport company in a release signed and made available to the press denied that such payments of outstanding four months salaries was not true, stressing that nothing can be far from truth, considering the comfort of such misinformation among the staff who have become worried and have shown concern in the mix up.
The release revealed that the information is in public interest and to further allay the fear of staff and show that of demonstrable efforts by the management to ensure that the outstanding salaries are paid in the soonest possible time.
According to the management, “we want to state for the umpteenth time that the information did not emanate from us and is equivocal in its declaration that the story seems a figment of the imagination of the writer or outright misrepresentation of facts. There is no iota of truth in it and we regret any inconveniences the misinformation from various media has caused”.
