The Delta Seaports Stakeholders’ Association, DSSA has thrown its weight behind ongoing reforms initiated by the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority, Miss Hadiza Bala Usman to ensure operational efficiencies in the Nation’s Seaports.
They averred that the assertion by Miss Usman that there was need for review of the 10-year port concession agreement to enhance ease of doing business in Nigeria is not just commendable, but timely.
A statement signed by Chairman, Board of Trustees, Delta Seaports Stakeholders’ Association, Emiko Oghomienor, expressed optimism that the NPA Boss’ assurance that her team was interfacing with other agencies to ensure improvement in the operational efficiencies of the Ports will result in increased patronage of Delta Ports.
The statement quipped that Usman’s assertion that her administration was putting in place a National Single Window Project with a view to domiciling all operations, including Nigerian Customs and other agencies into one platform, is the right step to revitalize Nigerian Ports.
According to the association, “the decision by the new NPA Management under Usman to publish its tariffs on its website for easy access by the public, the resolve to ensure competitiveness and pricing in line with what is obtainable across the West Africa Coast as well as other parts of Africa should be fully implemented in a timely manner”.
While stressing that the appropriate time for the review of concession agreements signed in the last decade is now, the statement declared that Terminal Operators are keen to have the review “as there are areas that need to be looked at in 10 years post concession”.
