Kogi don't have audited report since 2013, Lawmaker raises alarm

The member representing Igalamela Odolu Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Elder Friday Sanni has raised alarm that the State Government has failed to produce audited report since 2013.

Elder Sanni who stated this during the official inauguration of the technical subcommittee on public account shortly after today, Wednesday January 18 plenary said the development has gave room for corruption and other sharp practices among ministries, departments as well as agencies in the State.

The lawmaker who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Account also noted that it is an aberration that should be corrected, adding that his committee is confused on the way government monies are being spent.

He explained, “as we speak, Kogi State Ministries and Parastatals for the past one year and even beyond does not have an audited report. The last audited report I received before this house only ends at 2013. Meaning that, since 2013 till date, there is no audited report. This is a great aberration and we are all aware of the financial regulation and you know what it means for this

Meanwhile, the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in Kogi State, has condemned the alleged mass sack of workers in the State Civil Service under the guise of screening, describing it as inhuman, wicked and unfortunate.

According to Our Kogi State Correspondent, the PDP statement which was signed by the party’s Director of Research and Documentation, Dickson Achadu, , lamented the trauma and confusion the recent released report has caused citizens of the State.

The statement added, “the number of deaths caused by the governor during the failed screening exercise that lasted over a year since the release of the final report which saw to the sacking of about seventy percent of the Labour force of the State, under its un-cleared list, is the height of wickedness by the government against its citizens”.

While alleging that the State has accessed over a hundred billion naira since Governor Bello assumed office about a year ago, PDP stated, “the government aside not having anything to show for the accrual, has chosen to unleash hardship, pain and suffering that has impoverished and led to the untimely death of many citizens across the State”.
