Following the death of a Corps member in Orientation Camp in Kano December 2016 due to kidney failure, the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC has stressed that only fitness test from recognized Government Hospitals will be accepted.
While complying with the directive, prospective Corps members who went to Ekpan General Hospital in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State to carry out the general fitness test, said they were compelled to pay N3,000. 00 each.
Those who spoke on the condition of anonymity with Our Correspondent also disclosed that the fitness test process is stressful as they have to wait for hours in long queue before being attended to.
They averred that as it is only two Government Hospitals in the vicinity that can perform these test, Ekpan General Hospital and Warri Central Hospital, which will have to attend to a large number of prospective Corps Members in Warri South and Uvwie Local Government Areas.
It would recalled that following the death of a Corps Member of 2016 Batch ‘B’ in Kano State, Racheal Ifedolapo Oladepo, the Senate called for the overhauling of NYSC Scheme and ordered that comprehensive test be carried out for would-be Corps members.
