The strategic journey to package the uniqueness of Pidgin English, culture, products/services, other forms of home-grown businesses and distinguished individuals rooted in Warri, started Thursday July 25 in Warri, Delta State, with the proclamation of Warri Brand Committee, by the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Weyinmi Isaac Agbateyiniro.

While addressing members of the Committee during the inauguration ceremony held at the Warri South Council Conference Hall, Comr. Agbateyiniro, noted: “Warri is already a brand. Items like the Warri pidgin English, which is highly admired and appreciated around the world as well as the entertainment sector, where we have comedians and other artistes representing us, are brands of Warri, that need to be properly packaged. Personalities like Bismark Rewane, Wilson Oruma and Amaju Pinnick, among others, are Wafarians in different endeavors of life, that have distinguished themselves.”

Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Kingsley Edafiadjebre

The Warri South Local Government Boss, asserted: “You all will agree with me that Warri, being endowed with huge human and natural resources, have made various superlative waves in various endeavours of life at both local, national and international platforms. Ranging from sports, entertainment, commerce and industry, politics, just to mention but a few. It can therefore not be controverted that the likes of Festus Okotie-Eboh, Bismark Rewane, Wilson Oruma, Amaju Pinnick, Gordons e.t.c have been worthy ambassadors of Warri.

“Significant about all these, is that no official attempt has been made at any level of governance to appreciate and reciprocate these heroic strides of these great Wafariance, to epitomize the societal values that are inherent in their accomplishments. It is therefore on this note and under our watch that we feel it is imperative to give an official touch to the very ways we live and conduct our affairs.

“The concept, ‘The Warri Brand’ is therefore our humble way of packaging everything positive that Warri is made up of and a way to officially jettison any other attempt to alter the name Warri. We will package our language, our culture, all our indigenous products and the way we do business and sell them to the world.
