NAIS begins three-day programme in commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child

The National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS has begun a three-day programme to commemorate this year's International Day of the Girl Child, with focus on Mental Health Vulnerability and how to shun negative vices.

Performing the opening ceremony at Yonwuren College, Ugbuwangue, Warri, Delta State, the Vice President of NAIS, Miss Temi Jemide, admonished the students to shun procrastination, saying there's no magic to academic success, without hardwork and studious commitment.

Whilst charging fellow Itsekiri students to start doing chores early in life, in order to enjoy a better future, Comrade Jemide, stressed that procrastination is a dent to academic prowess.  

According to Comrade Temi Jemide, the theme for this year’s 2024 International Girl Child is, "Our Girls, our Priority". 

Health and Girl Child Advocate, Mrs. Juliet Aninor, in her admonition, charged the girl child to shun anything that would jeopardize their future, even as she stated that the World Health Organization, WHO, doesn't recognize teenager, rather acknowledges adolescent, adding that ‘girl child’ are specially made and unwarranted pregnancy, makes them cut short their dreams.

“Don’t let that 'chew gum boyfriend' ruin your future”, she advised.

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that a graduate of Nursing from Benson Idahosa University and member of NAIS, Miss Jemine Agbeyegbe, who spoke on the Girl Child and her hygiene, stressed on the health and wellness of the girl child. with focus on the passive effect of teenage pregnancy, which she totally advised them against.

The three-day International Girl Child event, continues Friday October 11 at Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State and will be rounded off Saturday October 12.

President of NAIS, Comrade Gbubemi Ogedegbe, former President of NAIS, Comrade Ighonmieytan Ernest, Comrade Famous Uwagbajumi, Comrade Alero Amiwero, Comrade Tsolaye Ekengbuda, other members of NAIS and Teachers of Yonwuren College and Basic Secondary Schools, were present during the ceremony.

Festus Ashima, respectively, OMO Foundation as well as Chairman of Ugbuwangue Community Youth, Mr. Blacky Yonwuren.
