In a bid to empower youths and open fresh doors of livelihood, five indigenes of Koko community in Warri North Local Government Area have completed a one-year training programme in tailoring, hairdressing, Disk Jockey and baking.
A new dawn of self-reliance unfolded at the Lubricant Blending Plant of TotalEnergies in Koko, as five graduates of the company’s one-year training in tailoring, hairdressing, disk jockeyand baking stepped into the spotlight of entrepreneurship.
Through its skills acquisition programme, TotalEnergies equipped them with starter packs and two years’ shop rent, a firm foundation to launch their businesses.
Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc, Dr. Samba Seye, represented by the General Manager, Mrs. Adesuwa Adewale, said the initiative, which began in Koko in 2006, remains one of the company’s strongest commitments to youth empowerment. He said so far, 84 beneficiaries have been trained in welding, catering, fashion design, computer studies, fish farming, hairdressing and baking.
He stressed that the programme is not just about learning trades but building futures, urging the new beneficiaries to use the support wisely, so that when TotalEnergies returns next year, Koko would be celebrating thriving businesses and creating jobs for others.
Community leaders and security representatives — including the Chairman of Koko Community, Mr. Christopher Eburajolo, the Vice Chairman of Warri North , Hon. Bisina Florence, who represented the council chairman, Hon. Festus Ashima, and Otobore Godday, who stood for the DPO, Olaogun Lukeman , applauded the empowerment drive.
They assured that strict measures are in place to check beneficiaries tempted to sell their starter packs, and called on TotalEnergies to sustain the good work.
Certificates were presented, and the graduates showcased their skills. In appreciation, they showered praises on TotalEnergies for what they described as a life-changing opportunity.
Past beneficiaries also shared testimonies, describing the initiative as a stepping stone to progress. They advised the new graduates to remain disciplined, focused and committed, stressing that self-employment is the best path to growth.
The event climaxed with jubilation, as Koko community embraced a new dawn of hope and empowerment.
