Chairman of the Governing Council of Ugborodo Community Trust, Tenumah Joseph Olori, says the Eghare-Aja of Ugborodo Federated Communities in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Eghare-Daniel Uwawah, “does not have the kind of power he arrogates to himself.”
Tenumah, while addressing newsmen in Warri, Thursday October 9, emphasized that the five Olare-Ajas (oldest men of Ode-Ugborodo, Ogidigben, Ajudaibo, Madangho and ljaghala) have the right to set up a Trust.
According to him, the five Olare-Ajas and registered Trustees, signed for the Governing Council of Ugborodo Community Trust, which he leads, saying, “this is not the first time, it has been done severally.”
He added: “Whenever there is a substantive Trust, any other form of organization cease immediately to exist. If you want to engage, you must engage constructively.
“What they are doing (referring to the Ugborodo Community Management Committee, UCMC, under the leadership of Mr. Emmanuel Onuwaje, Ikpere ALEMEJE Women Traders Association, led by Madam Helen O. Nuco and the Ugborodo Community Youth Development Body, UCYDB) is out of fashion and it is not acceptable.
“What they did as joint press conference at Ode-Ugborodo, is not in consonance with the rules and laws of engagement as it is today.
“Most of the people that attended the joint press conference, didn’t know why there were there, because some of them were forced out from their various house and shops.
“If there is no faction in Ugborodo, how come some persons are banned from entering Ugborodo. There is no law backing what they did and it’s not premised on any precedents.
“Our unveiling, was done by the elders of the five kindred communities as compared to theirs that was done by the Eghare-Aja, Olaja-Orori and Anderson Ebiokutan. Our unveiling was signed by the registered Trustees. The registered Trustees of Ugborodo Community Trust as at today, are nine in numbers, one just died recently, we are left with 8 and out of the 8, 6 of them signed for us. We are authentic.
“There are some persons that have held the community bound, they have used their wealth to gather some gullible people to themselves.
“We mean well for the community, we are restraining ourselves from meeting force with force, because if we go to that community, they would want to challenge us and if they challenge us, I am sure, it will lead to crisis, that is what we are avoiding, not that we are afraid of going to the community. We didn’t tamper with any document, every document we have is legal.”
On his leadership programme of action for Ugborodo, Tenumah, asserted: “We want to unite the people, because it is only in unity, we will have peace and it’s only in peaceful environment, that we will have sustainable development, but for us to achieve this, we must learn to say the truth.”
