The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, has assured that his administration will ensure timely remittance of employee contributions to the appropriate Pension Fund Administrators and maintain accurate documentation as well as record-keeping of stat data, for easy processing of retirement benefits.
Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, noted that his administration was also working closely with the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Asaba, to resolve legacy issues affecting some retired staff, to ensure fairness and compliance with current reforms.
Fresh Angle International, can report that the Warri South Local Government Boss, gave the assurance at the Warri South Council Sub-Secretariat in Warri, Delta State, Wednesday October 29, during a Stakeholders' Sensitization and Enlightenment Programme, organized by the Delta State Bureau of Local Government Pensions on Ongoing Reforms and Developments in the Contributory Pension Scheme.
Whilst stating that the goal of his administration, “is to guarantee that every employee of Warri South Local Government retires with pride, peace, and financial stability”, Comr. Agbateyiniro, added: “Today's sensitization programme reflects the strong partnership between the Delta State Government, the Bureau of Local Government Pensions, and the Local Government Councils in ensuring the welfare of our workers and retirees.
“Permit me to sincerely appreciate our amiable and people-oriented Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sherif Francis Oborevwori, the Executive, Governor of Delta State, for his unmatched compassion and commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners in Delta State.
“His administration has demonstrated true leadership and empathy by clearing the backlog of pension arrears owed to our senior citizens - men and women who served this State with dedication and loyalty.”
The Director-General of National Pension Commission, NPC, Ms Omolola Oloworaran, who was represented by the Head of South - South Zonal Office of the Commission, Mr. Lot Lasbery, stressed the need for pension contributors to do data recapture while in service, before he gets too late.
The DG of NPC, explained that data recapture means updating a contributor’s information and advised the contributors to approach their Pension Fund Administrators, PFAs for data recapture, saying without data recapture, a prospective retiree can't move from one PFA to another.

According to Ms Oloworaran, data recapture also helps a prospective retiree to access the 25% for mortgage, just as she disclosed: “We are thinking of bringing back the concept of gratuity, we are also considering health insurance scheme for retirees.”
The Chairman, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Asaba, Mr. Benjamin Igo, in his address, stated: “I must make mention of the N40 Billion Loan secured by the 25 Local Government Councils in 2023 with the guarantee of the State Government for the payment of the Accrued Rights of Retirees.
“A further sum of N1.8 Billion, was recently released by the 25 Local Government Councils for the same purpose. I am happy to disclose here that a total of 11, 535 retirees of Local Government Councils (3,643) and the Local Government Education Authorities and Primary Schools (7,892) under the Contributory Pension Scheme have been paid from inception to September, 2024.

“The figure for those who retired between October, 2024 and April, 2025 has been forwarded to the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee for consideration and release of funds.
“It is worthy to also mention that the Bureau is up-to-date in the payment of the monthly pensions of retirees in the Non-Contributory Pension Scheme (the Old Pension Scheme).”
Chairman of the Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Joseph Otirhue, who was represented by the Commission’s Chief Planning Officer, Dr. Chuks Kingsley Okogor, stated that the three major pillars of retirement are savings, investment and planned saving.
Hon. Otirhue, admonished local government workers to invest in their health, update their record, build multiple sources of income before retirement and leave legacies for the younger ones, by documenting their experiences in books and audio - visual formats.
