Warri Prince, Dr. Fregene Tuoyo, has tasked community leaders in oil-hosting areas to push for an open-door policy with multinational oil companies, citing the NLNG Bonny model as a prime example of how this can drive development.
Dr. Tuoyo, who made the call in an electronic statement made available to Fresh Angle International, Wednesday December 17, emphasized that such a policy would benefit not just those employed in the oil industry, but also small-scale traders, hoteliers, road transportation operators, and other local businesses.
"Itsekiris are suffering, and many want to return to their community, but the lack of modern facilities and amenities such as light, portable water, and roads are hindering them," Dr. Tuoyo said.
He urged leaders to prioritize development, stressing that the current situation is unsustainable.
"Most Itsekiris are willing to go to their communities to do business, but are emphasizing that only an open-door policy will make such business thrive," Dr. Tuoyo, added.
While expressing optimism that adopting the NLNG Bonny model could be a game-changer for Itsekiri communities, creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and improving living standards, Dr. Tuoyo, asserted: “It is time for our leaders to put the interests of our people first and push for policies that will bring development and prosperity to our communities.”
