Suspected hoodlums have blown-up a section of the Bomadi-Ohoro link road causing untold hardship to thousands of travelers on the road, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.
Our Bomadi Correspondent reports that the explosion which caused severe damage on the Ebeseigha stretch of the road, few metres away from the bridge has cut-off Bomadi Local government area, parts of Burutu, Patani and Ughelli North local government areas from the rest of Delta State, as well as some part of Bayelsa State. Report says stranded travelers were shocked by the magnitude of damage on the road overnight making it impassable.
A middle aged fisherman, who spoke to Our Correspondent on condition of anonymity, said that he was shocked by the loud bang of an explosion on the road at about 4:45 am when he was in the stream to check-up his fishing traps. “I was terrified by the loud bang, which came from the direction of the road. I took cover and when I came out of my hiding after about an hour later to know what happened , I found out that the road has been torn-open,” he said.
The Joint Task Force, JTF at Bomadi in a swift reaction apprehended some suspects who were later released after being detained, even though no proper investigation is said to have be carried out with a view to bringing the saboteurs to book.
A visit to the damaged section of the road, reveals that some youths have taken advantage of the destruction to make quick cash out of travelers. A makeshift bridge made of palm trees and woods is built as palliative for travelers to walk across upon payment of N100 for motorbike and N50 for pedestrians.
Fresh Angle gathered that the damage has become a major challenge to businessmen and women as well as other road users who now transport their wares through river by Okwagbe water side in Ughelli South local government area.
Some of the road users who spoke to Our Correspondent bemoaned the untold hardship they are going through and appealed to the relevant government agencies to carry out urgent repairs on the road, just as they demanded the arrest and prosecution of those behind the sabotage to serve as deterrent to others.
