An early morning raid by sea pirates suspected to be of Ijaw extraction on Monday November 26 led to the abduction of two Lebanese working with SETRACO, Habib Sadakaka and Charbel Karaki, while another of the company’s staff, Joseph Ekpudi died on-the-spot after bullet from a policeman gun allegedly killed him.

An eyewitness told Fresh Angle via mobile phone that the two Lebanese expatriate resumed work at a construction site in Gbaregolo, Ughelli South when their abductors who were said to be many in number took them into a waiting speedboat and escaped through Okoloba near Okwagbe following zero resistance from the three policemen on duty.

A staff in the company who witnessed the operation which occurred around 9.20am told Fresh Angle on condition of anonymity that of the 3 policemen on duty, two ran away on sighting the pirates, while one allegedly hid himself in apparent fear.

Report says it was an attempt by Joseph Ekpudi  to use a gun belonging to the policeman who was hiding that led to his death, following the argument that ensued between him and the unidentified policeman whose gun was already on trigger.

The pirates reportedly shot sporadically on entering the company’s site, ostensibly to scare any intruder before successfully carryout their operation.
The company yard was immediately shut down after the operation, while no word has been heard from the abductors as at the time of filing this report.

A young man, Fedude Ayaware, a commercial motorcyclist sustained gunshot wound on his back during the operation and he is presently receiving treatment at Our Saviour’s Clinic, Bomadi.

Fresh Angle gathered that the late Joseph Ekpudi was preparing for his father's burial before he met his sudden death.
