MDGs’ projects set to take-off in Bomadi

Bomadi local government area in Delta State is one of the local government areas that has been included to benefit from the Millennium Development Goals’ MDGs projects dotting the state to improve the quality of lives of the populace this year, Fresh Angle investigation reveals.
Technical Assistant to the Office of the OSSAP-MDGs deployed to Bomadi local government area, Mr. Tony Okpagboro made the disclosure in a chat with newsmen at Bomadi.

The Technical Assistant maintained that health, education, water and sanitation will receive priority attention in the local government, adding that these are key areas that require urgent attention based on report of Facility Based and Need Assessment, NA conducted in 2012 in the local government area.

Mr. Okpaghoro explained that the interventionist agency will work to improve on structures and strengthen the capacity to scale up development that will complement the efforts of the state and local governments towards raising the living standard of the people.

He revealed that plans are being finalized for the smooth take-off of the project, just as he said care will be taken not to duplicate projects executed by other interventionist agencies in the local government area, even as he appealed to the Bomadi local government council to give the agency the necessary technical assistance and office accommodation to enable it carry out its projects effectively.

Mr. Okpaghoro noted that “the main aim of the MDGS is to encourage development by improving social and economic conditions in the world’s poorest countries. They are derived from earlier international development targets, and were officially established following the millennium summit in 2000”.
The millennium development goals, MDGs are eight international development goals that were officially established following the millennium summit of the United Nations in 2000. This followed the adoption of the United Nations Millennium declaration. All 193 United Nations member state, including Nigeria and at least 23 international organizations have agreed to achieve these goals by the year 2015.

The MDGs include the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger, achievement of Universal Primary Education and promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women. Other goals are the reduction of child mortality rate, improvement of maternal health, combating HIV and AIDS, malaria and other killer diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a Global Partnership for Development.
