The people of Ekpan Community in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, have begun the celebration of Igoni Peace and Unity Carnival 43 years after it was halted due to internal strife, Fresh Angle International can report.
The 2017 Igoni Peace and Unity Carnival which is hosted by Udumuwovwri Quarters, Ekpan began Sunday December 17 and will hold December 24 and 31 respectively to usher in the new year.

One of the organizers of the carnival, Mr. Omughelli Okpowra who spoke to Our Senior Correspondent in an exclusive chat during the first day of the cultural fiesta, noted that the last time the carnival was celebrated was in 1974.
According to him, it is usually celebrated every festive season (December) to foster peace and unity among Ekpan people as well as others residing in the Uvwie community.
A former Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief (Barr.) Victor Otomiewo, an indigene of Ekpan, expressed delight at the resumption of the cultural fiesta and admonished the people to remain peaceful, even as he commended the organizers for putting the show-piece together.
President of Ekpan Youth, Raphael Olomu explained that staging the carnival this year is an indication that peace has returned to Ekpan and enjoined indigenes of the community to work towards its progress.
