The FIFA Women’s World Cup is nearing the end and all of the teams around the world have put up a good fight as they came up against the other players. The Nigerian Women’s team, for example, did very well, despite not making through to the next stage of the competition. The World Cup
People all around the world have been tuning in to this year’s FIFA World Cup which has been held in France. Not only have football fans been getting involved but those who don’t normally enjoy the sport have found the football spirit. People have been keeping up with the latest scores and the odds on sites like NetBet and hoping that their home country will take home the trophy.
Group Stages
When the 2019 Women’s World Cup first began last month, the groups were announced, and Nigeria were placed in Group A. This group included other teams such as France, Norway and the Korea Republic, so it wasn’t an awful group for Nigeria. When the group stages finished, Nigeria had 3 points overall with one match one and two lost. Their goal difference was -2 but they managed to progress and leave Korea Republic behind.
Round Of 16
Everyone in Nigeria who was supporting the Women’s team were very excited that they managed to make the round of 16 which is the knockout stages of this international tournament. The team that Nigeria were to come up against was Germany which didn’t show much promise as this team had topped their own group in the initial stages of the competition.
The match between Nigeria and Germany caused a lot of controversy when it came down to VAR and this hot topic of the entire tournament. In the end, Germany managed to score three goals against Nigeria who didn’t manage to put any in the net. This meant that Nigeria were out of the competition and Germany moved forward to the next round.
Final Verdict
While the Nigerian Women’s football team didn’t manage to make it to the quarterfinals of this competition, they did impress people from around the world. This team managed to not only qualify for the tournament, but they also managed to make it past the group stages into the Round Of 16. While the Nigerian team might be slightly disappointed that they are now out of the competition, we expect that they will feel proud that they managed to make it that far.
With only a semi-final and a final match to be played in the World Cup, we wonder – who will take home the trophy? At this point, it could be the USA, Holland or Sweden that wins the trophy when the final rolls around.
