Did you know there are foods we refer to as super foods? Did you know that some of these foods are common to us? And sometimes they are what we eat nonchalantly without even the slightest knowledge of what nutritional value they can offer.
Super foods are nutrient-dense, whole foods that contain a high concentration of phytonutrients, long chain carbohydrates and omega 3s. In order for a food to be labeled a super food, it must offer specific health benefits above and beyond normal nutritional value. Superfoods work synergistically with your body system, nourishing you at cellular level for optimal health benefits. Knowing these foods is a start and adding them to your normal daily meals is a smart way to optimize your health.
Are super foods hard to find? Absolutely not like I said earlier they are regular foods we are familiar with maybe a few might be a little harder to find. BELOW listed in alphabetical order are some superfood with their health stats.
APPLES- Apples contain antioxidants like quercitin ,chatein and flaviods that have preventive powers on health issues as prostate cancer, stroke. Type 2 diabetes, colon cancers, bladder cancer, lung cancer, blood cholesterol levels and they promote hair growth as well as inhibiting the formation of wrinkles. The antioxidants powers of apples are concentrated mainly in the skin so be sure to eat the whole fruit! Be careful of the seeds though as they contain CYANIDE and should not be eaten.
AVOCADO (COMMONLY CALLED PEAR)- Avocados are simply packed with nutrients and healthy compounds like folate and beta-sitosteral, which protects against stroke and also lowers the cholesterol levels in the blood. It is also rich in vitamin E and glutathione, both essential for overall good health, age prevention (i.e. lowers the rate at which we age due to the presence of antioxidants that fight free radicals in the body that cause ageing),and the prevention of heart disease. Avocado contains only healthy fats, and also aid in the adsorption of other nutrients in a synergistic manner. Nutritionist have proven that addition of avocados in salads enables the body absorb five times the carotenoids embedded in the salad than when eaten ordinarily. Avocado also reduces the risk of having breast cancer, macular degeneration and prostate cancer.
BEANS-The soluble fiber in beans prevents high levels of LDL cholesterol ( low- density lipoproteins which is regarded as the bad cholesterol in the body) in your blood stream, which reduces heart disease risks. For those who don’t eat much meat, beans are rich in iron and protein. They also work on blood sugar ups and downs with acid, copper and magnesium, so adding them to your diet can help protect you against several types of cancer as well as vascular disease.
BARELY- Barley is high in fiber, lowering instances of hemmorids and constipation. Barley is a hardy cereal widely cultivated for use in brewing. Brewing companies usually use this plant in the making of alcoholic drinks ( popular brands includes STAR, HARP etc). They create the atmosphere for friendly bacteria to live in the intestinal tract which partially is responsible for healthier levels of cholesterol produced by the liver. They also help “crowd out” disease –producing bacteria, preventing them from surviving in the intestinal tract.
CARROTS- Carrots provides health protection for a broad range of diseases ranging from cancers to macular degeneration and overall immune system.
