Absenteeism : Warri south council to appoint attendance monitors

In line with the directive of the Delta State Local Government Service Commission, authorities of Warri South local government council have concluded plans to appoint 9 attendance register monitors to check staff absenteeism.

This much was disclosed by the council’s new Head of Personnel Management, Mr. Douglas Acambe, while addressing staffers of the council at a meeting in the Warri South Council Main Secretariat Tuesday August 13.

Mr. Acambe noted that out of the 9 monitors who will be members of staff, one of them will be appointed as coordinator, while monitors appointed will be assigned to other departments to regularly monitor the attendance registers. He appealed to staff of the council to cooperate with the monitors and warned that henceforth the council authorities will implement the no- work- no pay policy.

According to Mr. Acambe, the local government service commission used Patani and Warri North local government councils as pilot scheme to implement the labour law of no- -work- no pay, adding that on monthly basis the council is expected to send reports to the local government service commission on the level of compliance.

The Warri South Council HPM, who only assumed duty two months ago, harped on the imperatives of corporate dressing by staff and advised against rumour mongering, saying it destroys cordial relationship in any organization.

The Warri South Council Assistant Director of Administration, Barr. R. B. Osemiha, some heads of department as well as the local government branch Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Comrade Godfrey Affor Maku were among key officials of the local government that attended the meeting.

It would be recalled that the Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Augustine Uroye had warned that his administration will no longer tolerate absenteeism, urging staff  of the council to brace up to their responsibilities.
