The Acting Provost of College of Education, Warri, COEWA, Sylvester Ebisine has appealed to Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan to suspend the demolition of make-shift student hostels close to the gate of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC along Edjeba community in Warri to allow the students prepare adequately for their forth- coming semester examinations.
The acting provost who made the appeal at the 19th convocation ceremony of College of Education, Warri held at the institution’s permanent site in Edjeba noted that the school is in dire need of ICT facilities, modern infrastructures such as offices, lecture halls, theatre studio, workshop, landscaping of the school compound to avoid flooding, new hostel accommodation for students, official vehicles, new sets of furniture as well as more employment to provide the needed manpower for academic excellence.
While noting that the college under his leadership has recorded ICT development in admission processes, course registration as well as checking of results online, Mr. Ebisine disclosed that arrangement is being finalized to link all offices in the institution with internet facilities.
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan in a remark decried a situation where students are encouraged to live in make- shift structures as hostels, noting that it gives room for social vices around the campus.
Dr. Uduaghan who denied allegation that there was no prior notice for owners of make-shift structures and caravans before the recent demolition by the State Ministry of Environment along Edjeba road, pointed out that the state government would soon commence arrangement for the construction of hostels within and around College of Education, Warri.
Earlier in an address, the Delta State Commissioner for higher education, Prof. Hope Eghagha appealed to the host community of College of Education, Warri to check the activities of what he described as “unfriendly friend” around the institution.
