Exclusive: DPO arrests chiefs shortly after installation, as monarch escapes
Ovie of Ukpedi Kingdom, HRM. Mosumor Okwagbe I, installing Bishop E.j. Malaki as a chief before the police arrest

Men of the Nigeria Police Force on Monday August 19, arrested newly installed as well as old chiefs of Ukpede Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State on the orders of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ayodele Aduba, shortly after monarch of the kingdom, HRM. Mosumor  Okwagbe I, installed new chiefs, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.

Fresh Angle can report that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Jeremi, headquarters of Ughelli South Local Government in company of over ten policemen, stormed the premises of one of the newly installed chiefs, Bishop E. J Malaki while the installation was going on and arrested them for alleged unlawful assembly.

Our Senior Correspondent gathered that the monarch of Ughievwen Kingdom,  Egbi Owhawha II, the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom earlier called the State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuamah, informing him that some persons were plotting to topple his leadership even though Ukpedi Kingdom is already an autonomous kingdom carved out from Ughievwen.

Fresh Angle scooped from impeccable sources that the State deputy governor purportedly called the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Jeremi in Ughelli South to mobilize, arrest and possibly injure anyone who attempt to evade arrest. But as soon as the information filtered into town, the Ovie of Ukpedi Kingdom smartly left the premises before the police arrived.

The DPO immediately ordered the arrest of the following newly installed chiefs, Bishop E.J Malaki, the Urhukpe of Ukpedi Kingdom, his wife, Mrs. Igho (the Usawhre-Igho of Ukpedi Kinbgdom) Lomu Onojede (the Adjuju-Ovie of Ukpedi Kingdom), Mrs. Okiemute Edafe (the Adviekeyah of Ukpedi Kingdom), Mr. Emmanuel Ejire (the Arhuwhen of Ukpedi Kingdom), Mr. Governor Mukoro (the Ugo of Ukpedi Kinhgdom), Mr. John Ekurhuemu Kerho (Asaron-Urhi) and Mrs. Martina Sheme (Ugherighen of Ukpedi Kingdom) and members of the Ovie of Ukpedi’s cabinet which include Chief (Mrs.) Grace Okiotor, Chief (Mrs.) Gift Adegbi, Chief David Sheme, Chief Dickson. E.A Odojo (the Ufuoma of Ukpedi Kingdom and Secretary to the palace).

In the process the police seized a Nikon digital photo-camera belonging to one Efe Okrigbolor, a commercial photographer covering the chieftaincy ceremony. This development sparked a serious argument between one Barrister Godswill Etareri Ejire and the policemen that came to effect the arrest.

Barr. Ejire insisted that the police should arrest him in place of the chiefs, claiming that it is an infringement on the rights of the people of Ughievwhen, particularly indigenes of Ukpedi Kingdom.

The Ovie of Ukpedi, earlier explained that he left his palace to the residence of the clergy to confer the title on him and other indigenes for their contribution to the kingdom.
