Perceived poor content, slow timeliness, sluggish attitude of workers, undue influence of states’ governors and occasional publication of stories without dates (which makes such stories/reports, unfriendly to research) are some of the downsides of public owned media, when compared to privately owned portals (newspapers and magazines) in Nigeria.
Investigation by Our Senior Correspondent, indicates that some conventional media (print and electronics) owned by states in the country, do not have online platforms (websites) and in cases where such portals exist, uploads of fresh contents (news and standard pictures/captions) are often belated.
The professionalism, timeliness and accuracy, associated with privately owned online media, makes them huge threat to media organizations owned by governments (federal and states).
