Marcos Alonso Mendoza was born in Madrid, Spain, December 28, 1990 and began his football career at Real Madrid youth team before playing for the Spanish and European giants, Real Madrid.
Alonso, an unassuming and quiet fellow who is 1.88 meters tall and weighs 85kg, played for Bolton Wanderers in England, Fiorentina in the Italian Serie A, Sunderland in England ( on loan) before he was signed by his current club, Chelsea in 2016.
The rising soccer artistry and exceptional quality of this Spanish International, who made his debut for the former World Champion, Spain, March 2018, started coming to the fore when ex- Chelsea gaffer, Antonio Conte deployed his trademark 3,5,2 formation for Chelsea in the 2016/2017 English Premiership Season, which The Blues won in pragmatic and colorful style.
While the discussions and rave reviews often centre on more illustrious Chelsea stars like Diego Costa ( before leaving the club for Atletico Madrid) Eden Hazard and Willian , not much is said about Chelsea's mercurial right back, César Azpilicueta Tanco (another Spaniard) and the calmly gifted left back, Marcos Alonso.
Though soccer pundits and ex-footballers often describe Marcos Alonso and David Luiz as possible weak links in the current rear guard of Chelsea (no thanks to the perceived lack of pace of Marcos Alonso) the Spanish International rarely gets his foot wrong on the ball.
Alonso is a great and visionary passer of the ball, reasonably smooth tackler, calculative of his movements (on and off the ball) and a good defender with smart attacking instinct.
Apart from his talent in taking prolific free kicks and other dead ball situations, the Chelsea left back provides intellectual cover for The Blues midfielders and often makes gorgeous use of his height.
Marcos Alonso Mendoza can best be described as a modern day footballer, endowed with defensive prowess, great technical ability, good team spirit and superb attacking flair.
