An emerging Itsekiri group poised to ensure that the Over-Lordship of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli remains sacrosanct on all issues that affect Warri Kingdom, the Defenders of Itsekiri Heritage, DIH has warned all those deliberately and rebelliously working against strategic development policies of the Warri Monarch to immediately put “a stop on their sacrilege against Warri Kingdom and the pristine Olu of Warri Stool”, saying their actions amount to declaring war against the entire Itsekiri Nation.
DHI in a communiqué issued in Warri on Friday April 22 after an emergency meeting, cautioned the member representing Warri North Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly and former Chairman of Warri North Local Government, Hon. Michael Diden, three-time Vice Chairman of Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC Ambassador Austin Oniyesan, Prince Moses Orubu Fregene and Itse Orugbo to retrace their steps on “the gross illegality and open affront displayed against the revered Warri Monarchy as it affects the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC”.
The Communiqué which was signed by Messrs David Odeli, Roland Yomere and Comrade Esimaje Awani, National Coordinator, National Publicity Secretary and Director of Mobilization of DHI respectively, admonished Officials of Chevron Nigeria Limited “secretly aiding the activities of Ambassador Austin Oniyesan and his Co-travelers to remove their hands in the on-going move to denigrate the Olu of Warri Stool and by extension the respected Warri Kingdom,” insisting that the Interim Order granted by a Delta State High Court sitting in Sapele regarding IRDC leadership “leaves much to be desired, because one of the key plaintiffs, Ambassador Austin Oniyesan already has pending litigation against his representation from stakeholders in Omadino Community”.
While expressing anger at the petition sent to the Delta State Attorney General, accusing the Olu of Warri off interfering in IRDC issues “whereas the Monarch is the number one stakeholder in Itsekiri and eminently symbolizes what Itsekiri Nation is known for”, DHI enjoined the Delta State Government to openly wash its hands off what they described as “a deliberate attempt to politicize the Itsekiri throne and reduce the Over-Lordship of the Olu of Warri, on every matter that bothers on Itsekiri survival, development and interests”.
DHI also appealed to the Olu of Warri to be weary of some Palace Chiefs around him, “because we have found out that some of them are behind the on-going rebellion and we would soon expose them before they connive to rubbish Itsekiri Nation”.
