Speculations making round regarding whether the Oba of Benin, HRM, Oba Erediauwa is alive or dead has finally been laid to rest as the Iyase of Benin kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe formally broke the traditional native chalk, symbolizing the reunion of the Oba with his
ancestors, Our Benin City Correspondent reports.
A Press Statement released by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom reads, “Osorhue by run. Oba Erediauwa of Benin kingdom, the Prince of Peace, Ebo, Ayemwirhe, Emini mini mini, has reunited with his ancestors. May he find perfect peace with God, amen”.
Chief Omon Osagie Utete Negiabi said the transited Monarch will be reincarnated because there has been no king as good as him.
According to Chief Arala of Benin kingdom, Prince S.B. Omo Lawal Osula, the Benis are mourning.“The late king is the only Benin Monarch who has served in the federal civil service as a Permanent Secretary”, he asserted.
Following the announcement of the Oba’s reunion with his ancestors, markets in Benin City, Edo State have been ordered to shut down till further notice, while the traditional Chiefs with several beads can only be allowed to wear only one. All traditional rites will continue.
