Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano says his administration is ready to partner with the Delta State Government to boost the economy of both States.

Governor Obiano gave the assurance weekend at Asaba, Delta State, during the second edition of Chief Dennis Chukwude Osadebay Memorial Lecture, with the theme “Strong Institutions as a Panacea to Good Governance.”

The Governor, who was represented by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Communication Strategy, Ogbuefi Tony Nnacheta, stated that Chief Obiano was particular about the theme of the lecture and noted that during the first 27 months of his administration, he was able to handle numerous challenges and sold his blueprint for the all-round development of Anambra State.

Meanwhile, an expert in Political Economy and Management, Prof. Pat Utomi has stressed that building strong institutions are important for the progress of any country, noting that absence of strong institutions will make a country repeat an action that made it fail at a point in its history.

The Professor who is an Entrepreneur and Founding Senior Faculty member of the Lagos Business School, noted that leaders are those that shape people’s values as well as inspire values to make people behave in certain ways, adding that without the right values, the right kind of institutions would not be built.

He advised that institutions such as institution of prestige, civil service, elite and political party, education, elite consensus as well as institution of shared values be established.

On how to remove strong men and establish strong institutions in Nigeria, he declared that the media have major role to play and advised members of the Fourth Estate to focus on people that add value to the society and ignore the strong men.

Two other discussants at the lecture, Chief Henry Okolo and Chief Ken Iwelumo stated the need for creation of new infrastructure, canvassed for the relocation of Fulani herdsmen bordering the perimeter fence with Asaba Airport as well as building a University of Medicine in Asaba, in the memory of late Chief Dennis Osadebay.
