Following the recent passage of Byelaw of tenement rate and miscellaneous 2016 by Udu Local Government Legislative Arm, the Centre for the Vulnerable and the Underprivileged, a human right group has given a- 30 day ultimatum to the Udu Local Government Council to repel the law or face legal action, insisting such Byelaw is oppressive, obnoxious and inconsistent with the provision of section 5 schedule, part 3 of taxes and levies approved for 2004, but encourages double taxation of her residents.
The Group which spoke through the National Coordinator, Barr. Oghenejabor Ikimi during their public complaint session held at Udu in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State, noted that even though the body is aware the Local Government must collect taxes, it must be in compliance with the same Byelaw where over 178 items are listed as taxable.
Those to be joined in the suit which will be instituted at Otor Udu High Court in Udu Local Government Area are the Udu Local Government Chairman, Hon Solomon Kpoma and Leader of the Council Legislative Arm.
The Groupcondoled with the family of those massacred by Boko Haram who disguised as Fulani Herdsmen and cautioned against killing of fellow humans.
