Multinational Oil and Gas major, Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL has revealed that it has spent over N6 billion on scholarships in 10 years, with over fifteen thousand students benefiting from the educational support programmes.
This much was revealed by the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, PGPA Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Deji Haastrup Thursday October 6 at Asaba, Delta State during the 11th edition of National Art Competition/Art Exhibition and Prize giving ceremony organized by NNPC/Chevron Joint venture.
According to Mr. Haastrup, the beneficiaries include those in Agbami Medical and Engineering Scholarship Scheme which is funded by Star Deep Water Petroleum Limited, a company owned by CNL and other Co-Ventures in the Agbami Field.
The CNL PGPA Boss noted that they have equally donated 27 laboratories as well as 13 Hybrid Libraries to different schools across Nigeria, revealing that Delta State was the first to receive a fully equipped modern science laboratory from Chevron.
While declaring that Chevron’s support towards educational development has resulted in 64% increase in WAEC enrolment, Mr. Haastrup quipped that the average performance from students supported by the company has improved from 18% in 2013 to 44% in 2014.
He pointed out that every year, the number of entrance into the Art competition keeps increasing due to the general acceptance by Nigerians and averred that the 2016 edition of the competition christened ‘Waste to Wealth’ was part of Chevron’s positive thinking towards the enhancement of Nigeria’s economy.
Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro in a remark declared that Chevron’s educational policy is in line with Delta State Government SMART agenda and lauded the company for championing education and other development programmes for the welfare of their host communities.
The Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Services, NAPIMS, Mr. Dafe Sejebor assured Chevron of their continuous support at all times in making sure the National Art Competition for Nigeria Secondary School Students succeed.
The NAPIMS Boss who was represented by Corporation’s Deputy Manager, Community Relation’s ‘B’, Mrs. Clementina Arubi commended CNL for sustaining the programme, even as she stressed the vital role played by the Delta State Ministry of Higher and Basic Education, the Federal Ministry of Education as well as Management and Teachers of various schools for their support.

She enjoined the winners to continually strive towards being the best among their peers and do things that will spur them to higher levels.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to twenty winners from different schools across Nigeria.
