Communities protest gruesome killing of four youths in Delta

Youths numbering over 1,000 from Ase-Omuke and Otulu-Ogwashi-Uku Communities in Ndokwa East and Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State Friday October 14 stormed Government House, Asaba, protesting the alleged gruesome killing of their youths.

The two communities jointly protested the murder of four youths without bringing the evil perpetuators to book.

Speaking separately during the protest, the Chairman and the Secretary of the Ase-Omuke Community Development Committee, Chief Okwudili Obi and Mr. Victor Ogbue said that the murderers of Late Francis Obi have been released.

They urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently address the matter and the decision so far taken reversed in the interest of justice and peace.

The Communities accused the Commissioner for Justice for not living up to expectations in the case while querying his opinion of no case to answer by any of these suspects.

 “True to the boasting of the suspects and their associates, the Honourable Attorney General has delivered an opinion of no case to answer by any of these persons. We understand that this is quite typical of the present holder of the sensitive office”.

 According to Chief Obi “all the suspects involved in the acts have been set free to harass, annoy and intimidate us for daring to have them arrested. This decision not to prosecute, we plead, must be reviewed and rescinded so that this nest of killers are not allowed free reign in the society”.

The Community Development Chairman revealed that the suspects have been allegedly boasting that they are above the law.

‘We are aware of the fact that statement have been obtained from eye witness including Police Officers who witnessed the gruesome killing in cold blood of late Francis Obi when a team of Police from Abuja was on duty to apprehend unwanted elements in Ase-Omuke community”.

While the youth President of Otulu-Ogwashi Community, Mr. Francis Odiwanor said Issele-Azagba Community Youths invaded their farmland with fire arms and killed three youths and eleven people managed to escape with serious injuries.

Mr. Odiwanor said “To our greatest shock in the face of credible evidence and written statements of our wounded youths, the department of Public Prosecution wrote that the culprits have no case to answer”.

Otulu-Ogwashi-Uku youth President appealed to Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to come to their rescue as the three brothers gruesomely killed are still in the mortuary while asking for full investigation of the case to avoid the outbreak of community war.

The protesters were armed with placards which read “Your Excellency Sir, an injustice to one is an injustice to all, we demand justice, how much did they pay you, we ask for the review of the case, Delta State Government should do something.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Peter Mrakpor said that he does not have enough evidence to prosecute the suspected killers

“What we have in the file for the two cases cannot give us conviction. We work with fact and documents, and if the investigation is not done properly there is nothing I can do. We don’t have enough to prosecute”.

The Commissioner of Police Mr. Zanna Ibrahim who came to the scene of the protest asked both communities to come to his office so as to address the matter once and for all.
