Chevron gets plaudits for donating E-Library to Delta schools

Delta State Government has lauded Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL and its joint venture partner, NNPC for building, equipping and donating a Hybrid E-Library to Ubeji Grammar School in Warri South Local Government Area, other secondary schools as well as Delta State University, Oleh Campus.

The State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa gave the commendation Wednesday November 16 at Ubeji, Warri during the commissioning of a Hybrid Library built and donated by Texaco Nigeria Outer Shelf Limited, a company owned by Oil and Gas Major, Chevron Nigeria Limited.

Dr. Okowa who was represented by the Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie thanked CNL for the project, describing it as a huge assistance to the Delta State Government in the quest towards preparing a better future for children born and unborn.

Mr. Ebie appealed to people of Ubeji Community to protect the Hybrid facility from vandalism, even as he stressed that Delta State Government believes in partnership with the private sector because of the premise that it has the potential of creating an efficient and qualitative education.

In his remark, the Director, Deep Water and PSCs, Mr. Jeffrey Ewing, disclosed that the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture has awarded more than six thousand scholarships to students across the country, noting that visually impaired are among the beneficiaries.

Mr. Ewing who commended Delta State Government for their support, noted that CNL will partner Management of Ubeji Grammar School through the Delta State Ministry of Education to execute more development projects.

The CNL Director, Mr. Ewing who was represented by the Warri Area Manager of the company, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn asserted that Chevron’s Deep Water Assets in OML 132 has executed other social investments in its area of operation.

According to him, some of the projects include E-Library at Ibadan Grammar School, Computer Science Laboratory in the Estate Surveyors Department of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and a Sick Bay at Federal Government College, Ogbomosho, Oyo State.

While stating that Chevron and its Co-Ventures in the Deep Offshore Fields are proud to have operated in Nigeria for over 50 years, Mr. Brikinn affirmed that Chevron has carved a niche for itself as a company of choice admired for its people, partnership and performance.

He mentioned some other schools in Delta State that have so far benefited from Star Deep Water  Petroleum Projects in the Agbami Field to include Uwheru Grammar School in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Zik’s Grammar School, Sapele, Delta State University, Oleh Campus as well as Mother and Child Centre undergoing construction at General Hospital, Sapele.

Principal of Ubeji Grammar School, Mrs. Mofe Otomi applauded Chevron and its Co-Ventures for selecting Ubeji Grammar School for the Hybrid Library which according to her, has brought E-Learning closer to the people, students and the entire community.

Mrs. Otomi noted that E-Library represents a digital library that focuses on audio and visual materials necessary for making reading and learning easy as well as more adaptable.

She appealed to the people of Ubeji Community Trust to help in the protection of the facility in the school for effective usage.
