Investigation: How Trump, Netanyahu are causing daily passengers' drivers' confrontations in Warri

The war launched by President of United States, Donald Trump and Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu against Iran, have triggered daily confrontations in Warri, between drivers/ riders of commercial buses/ tricycles and passengers, two - week investigation by Fresh Angle International, has revealed.

The consistent arguments between the transporters and passengers, is triggered by the fluctuations in the price of premium motor spirit, PMS ( fuel).

Whilst the transporters jacked up their prices per drop, to as much as 50%, majority of the aggrieved passengers, who are also frustrated with the sudden increases in the price of goods and services, argued that there was no bases for the sharp increase in the cost of transportation.

According to them, the cost of transportation prior to the Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu renewed onslaught against Iran, reflected the amount per litre of fuel when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced removal of fuel subsidy and premium motor spirit, was sold between N1,400 and N1,600 per litre at filling ( gas ) stations and roadsides( black market).

As at Monday March 23 when this report was published, the shortest trip  in the twin cities of Warri and Effurun, costs  N150 for commercial buses and tricycles, as against N100 prior to the fresh onslaught against Iran, whilst  transportation from Ekurede Junction, off the NPA Expressway Bypass to Effurun Roadabout, which usually costs N600, now costs between N700 and N800 for commercial buses.

Apart from the daily negotiation - war between the transporters and passengers, there's also the challenge of getting balance ( often referred to as change in Warri) of N50. To avoid this recurring argument, the commercial transporters often asks  the prospective passengers " you get change? Or, you hear them saying ' hold your change o" before carrying any passenger.

The increase in cost of transportation vis - a - vis its resulting impact on the prices of goods and services, have reduced the daily movements of many residents in Warri, Warri South Local Government Area, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area and Udu Local Government Area, with residents calling on the Delta State government, to mitigate the effects of the new increase in transportation costs.

There's also the near zero public power supply from Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, thus crippling socio - economic life in the area, making residents to explore solar system and other forms of energy to power their homes and businesses, according to their financial muscle.
