Court sentences man to 12 years in prison


Justice Phoebe Ayua of the Federal High Court Lokoja has sentenced one Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim to 12 years in prison for Crude oil theft, Our Kogi State Correspondent reports.

Ibrahim, who is 22 years old was dragged to the Federal High Court Lokoja by the Kogi State Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC for offenses ranging from conspiracy, stealing and dealing illegally in crude oil.

Justice Ayua who delivered the judgment according to charge NO. FHC/LKJ/7IC/2016 also ordered that 33,000 liters of crude oil and truck with registration number, XA 900 XT be forfeited to the federal government.

Counsel to NSCDC, Barr. E.S. Onu while lauding the court for the judgment observed that it is a right step towards reducing illegal exploration of crude oil.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC  has reiterated its commitment on its mandate of protecting the national assets and infrastructure, pipeline vandalism,  oil bunkery and other statutory responsibilities.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Abdullahi said the command had successfully prosecuted and convicted some criminals who engage in the act.
