The Executive Director, Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, CHRCR, Comrade Idris Miliki has accused Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello of running a corrupt government.
Miliki made the allegation Tuesday May 14, during a one-day quarterly review meeting on Anti-Corruption, Transparency and Accountability in Elections, organized for Media and Civil Society Organizations, CSOs.
Fresh Angle International can report that the meeting was held in conjunction with Yar'Adua Foundation in Kogi State.
Miliki who is a human right activist, also appealed to the Federal Government not to release June local government allocation to Kogi State Government.
According to him, in the last three years of the Bello administration, he has allegedly refused to conduct local government elections, despite “the huge sums of money collected from the federal government”.
He opined that the State House of Assembly should be held responsible for the non-conduct of local government election in the state
Comrade Miliki added that the tenure of the administrators put in place by the governor to administer the local government councils, ended 29th of March this year, but the governor has continued to “practice illegality within illegality in the state”.
"As I am speaking now, the state government have not put in place State Independent Electoral Commission and they don't have a chairman. In Kogi State, no local government council received less than N3 billion in the last three years. The governor is operating illegality in the state, he must conduct local government council election. Whatever they are doing today is illegal," he stated.
