Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, says severe thunderstorm is ongoing in Delta, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Cross River, Edo and Kogi States.
The agency, in its weather alert released 10.35am today, Monday July 27, warned that within the next 1–6 hours, the thunderstorm system is expected to propagate and affect Lagos, Ogun, Oyo
Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Kogi, Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.
While cautioning of high risk of flash flooding in parts of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, NiMet predicts that strong winds may precede rainfall, moderate to heavy rainfall with frequent lightning and flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, especially in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.
According to the national weather monitoring agency, there are likely to be falling tree branches and displacement of loose objects, power disruptions and electrical hazards as well as reduced visibility and slippery road conditions.
