VACANCY FOR THE POST OF PROVOST, COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, WARRI.

In keeping with the Edict setting up the College (Bendel State of Nigeria, Gazette No. 25) which empowers the Governing Council to recommend three candidates to the Visitor, the Executive Governor of the State to appoint a substantive Provost, the Council invites suitably qualified Academics with cognate experience at teaching and administration at tertiary level of education (University, College of Education and Polytechnic) to apply for the post of the Provost, College of Education, Warri.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Provost as Chief Academic Officer/Chief Executive Officer of the College shall be responsible for the day to day running and management of the College.

• Provide academic and professional leadership in the execution of policy guidelines laid down by the Governing Council.

• Maintain discipline as well as cater for the welfare and interests of the staff and students of the College and perform such other functions as may be conferred upon him/her by the Edict establishing the College and/or the Governing Council.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Interested candidates for the post of the Provost of College of Education, Warri should meet the following criteria:

1. Must be a Chief Lecturer in the College of Education system with at least five years experience or a Senior Lecturer in a University with five years experience on the rank;

2. Should possess a doctorate degree in one of the fields in the College and a professional qualification in education;

3. Must possess 15 years post qualification teaching /research experience in a College of Education system or its equivalent and in addition must have held a senior teaching/research and a top administrative position in a tertiary institution;

4. Must not be more than 60 years of age at the time of assumption of duty;

5. Must show evidence of academic and administrative leadership including publications at national and international levels.

6. Must show evidence of professional standing/honours, including registration with Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

7. Proficiency in ICT (packages and capabilities);

8. Evidence of community service at local and national levels;

9. Evidence of funds/ research grant(s) attracted.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

• The Provost shall be on consolidated salary.

• The Provost will be appointed for a single term of five (5) years.

• Other conditions are as applicable to Provosts of Colleges of Education in Nigeria.

xi. Name and address of present employer, stating post held, date and salary.

xii. Scholarly publications (Conference papers, journal papers and books)

xiii. Special awards (if any)

xiv. Extra curricula activities

xv. Names and addresses of three (3) Referees.

• Each application should be accompanied by a certificate of medical fitness from a government hospital.

• A statement of the candidate’s vision and mission for the College of Education, Warri for the next five (5) years.

• The candidate should request each of his / her referees to forward a report directly to the Registrar under confidential cover.

All applications and Referees’ Reports are to be forwarded either by hand or courier, under confidential cover in an envelope marked at the top left hand corner “ Position of Provost” to the Registrar and Secretary to Governing Council, College of Education, Warri, not later than six (6) weeks from the date of this publication.

Only shortlisted candidates will be notified of an interview date.
