The Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC under the leadership of Esimaje Awani has rejected the 500 slots allotted to Itsekiri ethnic Nationality by the Presidential Amnesty Office, claiming less than 100 Itsekiris actually benefited from the slots allotted to Itsekiri.
Addressing hundreds of Itsekiri youths Monday September 15 at the front of Olu Palace in Warri, Delta State during a protest, Mr. Esimaje Awani accused the brains behind the 500 amnesty slots allotted to Itsekiri Nation of giving majority of the slots to non-Itsekiris, stating that those behind the 500 slots have refused to honour the invitation of Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Amnesty Programme, Hon. Kingsley Kuku to clarify themselves on the alleged ghost names forwarded to the amnesty office as Itsekiri Amnesty Beneficiaries.
He vowed that his leadership will stop the deduction of N 15,000.00 each from the Itsekiri amnesty beneficiaries currently being used for administrative purposes, stressing that 500 slots is not enough for Itsekiris compared to 32,000 allotted to Ijaw ethnic Nationality.

Other Itsekiri youth leaders from different communities such as Joseph Ugburo, Emiko Oghomienor and Helen Oritseweyinmi who addressed the protesters vowed to continue the struggle until the Amnesty Office give Itsekiri Nation their due, adding that they will no longer allow a few who they claim are no longer youths hijack the amnesty programme meant for Itsekiri youths who fought during the Warri crisis.
Our Correspondent reports that the protesters who marched from the Warri GRA Secretariat of the Esimaje Awani led INYC Secretariat to the Olu Palace in Warri chanting solidarity songs with placards carrying inscriptions such as “we need our 500 slots” “Hon. Kingsley Kuku is not our problem, our leaders are the one”, “Tonwe stay away from INYC affairs”, “Isaac Dorsu, David Tonwe, Hon. Reyenieju are no longer youths”, and “pay our complete N 65, 000.00 David and others”.
