Cheques valued at over N27 million has been handed over to 27 farmers in Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State by FADAMA, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.
Speaking shortly before the cheques were handed over Wednesday September 17 to the farmers at the Warri South Local Government Council Secretariat in Warri, the Delta State Project Coordinator, FADAMA III, Mr. Abanum Anthony cautioned FADAMA Community Associations, FCA to judiciously spend the N27.2 million which is 60% of the agreed amount that will be given to the farmers, cutting across three FADAMA Users Group, FUG (Great Dreamers FUG, Omadino FUG and Okugbe Ukpokiti FUG).
He stated that in two weeks from the date of disbursement, FADAMA Officials will visit the benefitting farmers to evaluate how the money was spent.
According to Mr. Abanum Anthony, any community that has crisis while utilizing the fund to carry out their project will not get FADAMA’s support or that of the Local Government.

In a brief, Warri South Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Dr. Augustine Uroye explained that the State Government in pursuit of its Delta Beyond Oil Agenda is doing a lot in the area of agriculture.
Dr. Augustine Uroye while charging the beneficiaries who are poultry, fish and cassava farmers not to disappoint the state government, noted that failure to make judicious use of the fund will shut the door for them and others who will want to partake in the FADAMA programme in future.
He advised members of the FADAMA User Groups, FUG to work with each other and cautioned that nobody should claim to be a farmer when he/she is not, just because they want to benefit from the fund.
One of the Beneficiaries from Omadino FCA, Mr. Goodluck Itsekiri who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the Warri South Local Government Transition Committee Chairman, Dr. Augustine Uroye and the FADAMA team for making the fund disbursement a reality, promising to ensure that the funds will be judiciously utilized.
It would be recalled that FADAMA III was formed in 2008 and lasted till 2013 with 20 Local Government Areas benefitting in Delta State out of the 25 Local Government Areas that make up the state.
The 20 Local Government Areas which participated in the previous programme received funds from World Bank, Federal Government and Local Government, while the remaining five Local Government Areas: Bomadi, Burutu, Warri South, Warri South-West and Udu Local Government Areas, which are the current beneficiaries are being funded by the State Employment and Expenditure for Results, SEEFOR.
