Revealed: Why Delta LG Funds may deplete further

Despite the over three weeks old strike by workers in 21 local government areas in Delta State over unpaid four months salaries, feelers from Asaba, the State capital reveal that the poor financial position of the councils may get worse if the Okowa administration fails to revert last minute approvals by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Fresh Angle International gathered from an impeccable source that Dr. Uduaghan gave last minute approvals for the monthly security votes of Local Government Chairmen to be increased and cars to be procured for the local government bosses as well even though no reasonable attempt was made to address the precarious financial state of the local government councils and to pay salaries of the striking workers.

The newly sworn in Governor of the State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa  has already cancelled the late hour recruitment into the state civil service following the manner the exercise was conducted and it is believed that the Okowa administration which inherited salaries of local government workers in the state may reverse Dr. Uduaghan's last minute approvals capable of worsening the paucity of fund at the councils, even as President Muhammadu Buhari in his inaugural speech vowed to tackle gross corruption at the local government level.

We can also report that the approval to procure cars for the Local Government Chairmen in Delta State which was an arrangement by the last Uduaghan administration in collaboration with a prominent commercial bank(name withheld) will see the commercial bank deducting payment for the cars from the dwindling monthly federal allocations accruing to councils in the state.
