Over 1,000 Itsekiri youths under the auspices of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC in the evening of Tuesday September 29, 2015 embarked on a mourning walk in honour of the late Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II.
The youths who converged under the Esimaje Awani led INYC wore black and red tie as symbol of mourning in conformity with the directive by the Warri Traditional Council. They noted that the walk was to openly show their compliance in observance of the three-month mourning period.
The INYC President, Comrade Esimaje Awani called on lovers of Itsekiri Nation and Warri Kingdom across the world to join them in showing respect in honour of the departed Warri Monarch.
According to Comrade Esimaje, the INYC has set up a 20-man taskforce to ensure the enforcement of the mourning laws as declared by the Warri Traditional Council. He declared, “Our Monarch is the centre of our unity, he was so dear to us that is the main reason we decided to embark on the procession in his honour”.
The INYC President commended the entire Itsekiri youths for coming out enmasse to show respect in honour of the transited Ogiame Atuwatse II.
Our Senior Correspondent reports that notable youths in the mourning walk included Hon. Thomas Emami, Vice President of Esimaje Awani led INYC, Comrade Richard Eyiangho and other executive members of the Itsekiri apex youth body.
The walk took the youths around Mabiaku Link Road in Warri GRA, Esisi Road, Okere Market Roundabout, Ekpen Street, Ajamimogha and was rounded off at the Olu Palace Field, Warri.
