A Contingent of Senior Course 45 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, AFCSC, Jaji in Kaduna State, has praised Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area in Delta State, Dr. Michael Tidi, for doing a lot in reducing youth unemployment and promoting National security.

Fresh Angle International can report that the Team Coordinator for the Senior Course 45 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Capt. A.T. Ebo, gave the commendation Wednesday November 23, when the contingent visited Warri South Local Government Council Main Secretariat in Warri, as part of their study tour to Delta State.

Capt. Ebo, opined that Dr. Tidi’s efforts towards reducing youth unemployment and promoting security, has contributed immensely to the peace in Warri South Local Government Area in particular and Delta State by extension.

In his welcome address, the Warri South Local Government Chief Executive, Dr. Michael Tidi, disclosed that Warri South comprises 51 communities (riverine and upland) spread across 12 federal wards.

Whilst highlighting the great contributions of Warri South Local Government to the Nation's economy, Dr. Tidi, emphasized that the local government area is blessed with a pool of skilled and highly educated citizenry in virtually all the noble sectors of Nigerian economy.

He described the theme of the study tour of the Senior Course 45 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, which is "Youth Unemployment and National Security", as apt, “considering the state of security in the Nation”, saying: “It is a statement of fact that the rising level of unemployment, can be attributed for the increase in security challenges in the country”.

“The Council through the Vocational centre located within the Council Secretariat, have trained a number of youths in different skills, ranging from Tailoring (Fashion Designing), Catering, Computer training (ICT) Hair Dressing and Make-Up/scalping.

“The Council had also sponsored over 100 youths to acquire skill in welding and fabrication at the Egbokodo Skill Acquisition Centre. Presently, the Council is discussing with Courageous Girls, Women and Children Initiative on the training of some girls/women on sustainable solar energy technical training/business start- up empowerment (Energize Naija). It may also interest you to know that in the Council’s 2023 Draft Estimate submitted to the Legislative Arm yesterday (Tuesday November 22) adequate budgetary provision, have been made to enable the Council distribute starter-packs to our youths, who have acquired skills in different areas, but could not commence their trade for lack of fund. When these youths are empowered, the multiplier effect on the economy is better imagined.

“We are also compiling list of youths that would be sponsored to acquire skills and at the end of their training, their starter-packs, would be donated to them. All these programmes were meant to reduce the unemployment rate in our Council Area, thereby engaging our youths actively”, Dr. Tidi, explained.

He enjoined the Senior Course 45 contingents, to join their voices with that of his administration, to call on the Federal Government to put the Warri Port to effective use, adding that the youth development programmes of Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, “have been described as unprecedented, phenomenal and best safeguard against explosion in youth unemployment”.
